About Me

I'm TESSA DRAYTON

Tessa Drayton is a Communications Professional and Entrepreneur based in Trinidad and Tobago, with considerable expertise in Public Relations.

Tessa has received academic qualifications from the UWI-Roytec, the University of the West Indies and the Institute of Strategic Risk Management (ISRM), garnering credentials in Communication Studies, Management and Corporate Risk and Crisis Management.

Twenty years ago, I applied to one of the country’s top tertiary level institutions to pursue my passion, a career in Public Relations. However, an Advisor denied me the opportunity because I was not yet employed in the field of PR. Instead, I was given the option to study for the Diploma in Management for Administrative Professionals. Feeling dejected and conflicted about what to do, I made a haste decision to read for the assigned course and use that new academic tool to work and study in the field of Communications. Turned out to be one of the best decisions I ever made.

Over the years, I dedicated my time and resources to learning about every aspect of Communications. While I worked part-time jobs during the day, including the once prestigious PR firm, SWF & Co, I freelanced on evenings, nights and weekends working and learning skills of this exciting trade. Although at times the process was wearisome, I reminded myself of my vision to one day manage my own business in Public Relations, to serve persons in any part of the world by empowering and encouraging them to become better communicators.

By 2012, my life almost ended abruptly. I suffered quietly from depression, hopelessness and the will to no longer live a meaningful life and made a decision to put myself out of misery. God had a different plan for me. He was determined to restore me and make me whole again. In 2013, things slowed down a bit and I had to find a balance between completing my degree and managing a family. The following year, I graduated with honours, a B.A. in Communication Studies.

When the pandemic emerged in 2020, surprisingly, it was a NEW DAY for me.   I started networking and seeking help from persons in the field of Communications to take me under their charge and mentor me. I wanted to share my skills and talents but also learn from the veterans, how to be an outstanding Communicator. Yet again I was met with rejection and deception; only this time, I chose not to run away and wallow in depression. I quickly detached myself from those toxic individuals and continued on my search for authentic relationships. TND Communications was born in November of that year, 2020.

Although activities have slowed down because of economic transitions globally, I am proud to say that I am helping customers solve their why and be better communicators. To date, I have served clients locally, in the US and UK and managed clients and NGOs across various sectors inclusive of cybersecurity, risk management, financial services, food and beverage, providing solutions tailored to their requirements and needs. I have also been featured in local and international publications and collaborated with some of the brightest minds in the fields of Marketing, Communications and Risk Management. In 2021, I was bestowed with the title and responsibility of Chair, Institute of Strategic Risk Management-Trinidad Chapter. Presently, I volunteer with Abilene Wildcats Athletic Club and the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM).

I share this story of my journey with joy that I have overcome adversity and now strive to fulfill my purpose. Hi, I’m Tessa Natalie Drayton, mother, entrepreneur, storyteller and a servant called by God to be of service to people in need in any part of the world.
